Valentino Architects’ eCABS booking office has been nominated as one of five Maltese architecture projects in this year’s EU Mies Award. The award, organsied by the Fundació Mies van der Rohe and European Commission, select 383 projects from 38 countries every two years, with nominated works made public through the awards’ website and an exhibition. The five Maltese nominations were selected by the Kamra tal-Periti after winning the national Premju Galizia earlier this year.
The design for the eCABS project focused on building a strong aesthetic that would reflect the company’s ethos – a growing cab company that has established itself as a market leader. The space also needed to serve a specific function, and this functionality was a key driver to the design. The fit-out for eCABS was cut from a single block of grey terrazzo, the colour and composition of which were designed specifically for this project. Three blocks of terrazzo in total were cast for this project, having been pressed for three weeks and then cut to size once the press was removed. Our team would like to thank the Kamra tal-Periti for this nomination, allowing this experimental project to gain exposure at an international level.
