14 East occupies the two topmost floors of a mid-rise block located metres away from Malta’s north- eastern shoreline. Its triangular plan is sectioned into living zones connected through defined pathways and curated sight-lines. Living, dining and poolside spaces occupy an upper level, whilst three bedrooms with adjoining bathrooms make up a lower, more secluded floor.
On the upper living level, two reflective cubes partition an otherwise open plan, concealing structure and services and delineating between kitchen, dining and lounging areas. Bronze-mirrored panels line the exterior of the cubes, reflecting the penthouse’s triple-aspect views. Track-lighting along the ceiling works in parallel with sight-lines and pathways.
A black elm staircase links down to a bedroom level where reflection is inversed, with mirrors bouncing light inwards into tonally rich interiors. An internal courtyard and flanking doors create horizontal lines of sight through the apartment, whilst a dimly-lit corridor leads users directly to a large terrace. Bedrooms have been designed as spacious, independent suites with dedicated bathrooms. Each enjoy distinct views, with the main suite overlooking Valletta. Light travertine proliferates throughout, with darker tones being used on the bedroom level to mute the suites’ natural brightness. As with the upper level, the three bedrooms occupy their own designated zones across the plan, with solid and semi-translucent storage doubling as partitioning.
